This summer I've written posts about my top favorite places in Burlington as well as my favorites on Church Street. On these lists I left out some of the most important places in Burlington. What is more important than food? There are many good places even off of this list, but these are my personal favorites that I tend to frequent more than the others.
1. Sweetwaters
Sweetwaters is right on Church Street just before the intersection with Main Street. It serves American style food and its menu has many burgers, steaks, great appetizers, and, my favorite, specialty salads. I pretty much only order one thing there, which is the Chicken Gorgonzola Salad. It's incredible. Check out the menu HERE.
2. Halvorson's Upstreet Cafe
Halvorson's is on the opposite end of Church Street from Sweetwaters, just before the intersection with Pearl Street. It serves American style food such as burgers and salads. My favorite is the burrito dish. It's super cheesy and super delicious.
3. Al's French Frys
Al's is an incredible restaurant. There's nothing quite like it. They have a very basic menu, but everything is absolutely delicious. My favorite is a double cheeseburger with some fries and a chocolate milk shake. Word of advice: ALWAYS get a milk shake. Always.
4. Vermont Pub and Brewery
The Vermont Pub and Brewery is your standard pub and brewery. They make an incredible shepherd's pie, a vegetarian lasagna, meatloaf, as well as burgers, soups, and salads. Check out the menu. It's not directly on Church Street, but is close by on College Street downtown.
5. Bove's
Bove's has to be one of the best Italian restaurants around. It's sauces are sold around the country in grocery stores. The menu, like Al's, is simple and straightforward, but delicious. Plus, it's not too pricey so you don't feel to guilty running to Burlington to grab dinner rather than eating at Alliot. Not to mention you can order out, which takes about 5 minutes to get after ordering. It's located just down the street from Church Street on Pearl Street.
6. Three Tomatoes Trattoria
Three Tomatoes is one of the best italian restaurant I've come across in the area. It's a little fancier than Bove's as far as the menu goes. Most of the ingredients are from local vendors, which I always love. They make many different types of pasta as well as wood fired pizzas that are incredible.
